Engineering giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has entered into a consortium with E2E Networks, a New Delhi-based AI cloud service provider, to bid for the ₹10,000-crore GPU tender under the IndiaAI Mission, sources revealed to ET.
L&T prefers to go as one team rather than compete. E2E will front or prime this for them, acting as the primary bidder. L&T will be a consortium partner in the project, a source told ET. Both L&T and E2E declined to comment on the development.
The tender, part of the government’s initiative to establish a public AI cloud infrastructure capable of supporting at least 10,000 GPUs, is being executed through a public-private partnership model. The bidding deadline, now set for November 28, marks the third extension since the original date of September 6. Subsequent extensions had been granted for October 16 and November 12.
Roles in the Partnership
In this collaboration, E2E Networks will be responsible for procuring GPUs, while L&T will provide the necessary data center infrastructure to house them. The agreement strengthens L&T’s capabilities in the AI and cloud computing domains.
This partnership comes shortly after L&T’s announcement on November 5 regarding its acquisition of a 21% stake in E2E Networks. The all-cash transaction, valued at ₹1,406 crore, is aimed at enhancing L&T’s data center and cloud services offerings.
Expanding Cloud and AI Infrastructure
L&T currently operates two data centers: a 2MW facility in Panvel and a 12MW facility in Chennai, both catering to third-party customers. Meanwhile, E2E Networks has co-located servers with Netmagic in Greater Noida, managing a 3.2MW capacity that hosts most of its GPU infrastructure.
According to L&T executives, this strategic investment not only broadens L&T’s cloud services portfolio but also aligns with its focus on expanding its data center business. By combining their strengths, E2E and L&T aim to position themselves as key players in the AI-driven public cloud infrastructure space, contributing significantly to India’s AI mission.
